The M6 apparently isn't a performance car. Discuss.

Is the M6 a performance car? Serious question - I've never driven one, or even been in one, but I understood it's more of a cruiser than a sportscar. A seriously quick cruiser, though.

Manual, V10, at the time near supercar levels of performance.
Sure, it might be more geared towards being a GT car but I think the FP is comprised of...ahem...fucking idiots who've never driven anything more sporting than a Pinto.
Everyone else who isn't a dumbass would know that regardless of its stupid styling, the M6 is performance like anything else that comes out of the M Division.

I would say it's a performance GT car, I'm not sure if I would call it a sportscar though.
Being fast is enough to make a performance car imo...

Say what? I guess the A8 ain't a luxury sedan either..
I'm at work now, so I can't write a long long answer on this, but I'd say the M6 is a performance car in every way. It's fast, it's kinda big, it handles well, it sounds friggin' GREAT..
Any reason it wouldn't be a performance car?

That seems a ridiculous thing to say. It's not ridiculous to say that it's still ugly as sin, though.

I guess that depends on your definition of "performance". Anything that do the quarter mile in 12.4 seconds and pull almost .90g's on a skid pad is definitely a performance car in my book. There's also the fact that this is literally the performance version of a regular 6-Series.

The older 6-ers are slowly growing on me, but seeing the rear always makes me shudder.

I won't say it's a pretty car, but I think it's unfair to call it ugly. It looks mean I'd say, but that's just me :)

It's apparently under powered and a pig and too fat.
![]() 03/11/2014 at 11:29 |

Certainly not a sports car, but performance is the name of the M6's game.

WHAT? Have they even driven one? Underpowered? Yeaaaahh.. right... next thing they'll tell us the 911 Turbo is slow as well..
![]() 03/11/2014 at 11:32 |

Oh yes, absolutely. It has 500 horsepower or something, so it's not even close to slow or beige. But with more restrictive definitions, it might not qualify as a performance car - depending on what it's actually like to drive.

In my opinion Performance car =/= Sportscar...
It's more a big GT than it is a sportscar, but it's definitely a performance car.

Hey, fuck you! Pintos were sporty!

It isn't a pure performance car. It never rivalled a GT3 RS or a Exige. But it still would be filed in the performance vehicle category thanks to that glorious V10 and good handling abilities (for its size/weight). It's the same thing with an SL55.

A screaming V10 producing 507 bhp. Manual gearbox. A huge array of driving aids, perhaps too much.
How is that not a performance car...

I can't claim to have driven the M6 more than a few miles, but first impresions where great. I have however driven a 635d from Hamburg to Oslo (930Km/577miles), and I can tell you that I'd even say that one could be called a performance car. Handling is just awesome, power delivery even better.

In some cases the M6 is a motorway and not a performance car. Discus.

Yeah, they'd burn nearly anything off at the lights.

The M6 is a GT. Blisteringly fast in a straight line, silent on the autobahn, competent but somewhat muted in the twisties.
SO it qualifies as a performance car, but is not a sportscar or supercar.

Oh hell no has it ever gone against an Exige or GT3 - it's a big 'ol grand tourer, but it's a performance car regardless.

I see. I'm a knuckle-dragger, so my idea of performance is mostly in a straight line :)

I note I didn't have to clarify I was trolling.

I personally think that the M6 isn't a performance car for some reasons.
1. It's based off a 6-series, which shouldn't be a performance car in the first place, and shoehorning a huge engine, adding a body kit and suspension and wheels to me just doesn't make it a performance car.
2. Then there's the GT argument, but it can be a performance GT I guess, it's just more of a cruiser to me than a performance performance car, even though it's a damn powerful cruiser.
But if I have these arguments, the shoehorning argument throws out the M5, E63 (sedan and wagon), more or less told RS, AMG and M to pack their bags and go to Mars, and I love some of those cars too much for them to lose their performance uber car status due to a complication with my hatred of the M6 coupe. So I guess in my book, M6 is stayin' in the performance car category.

Calc 3 however was fucking horrible.
